The bundling together of both new and existing Microsoft 365 capabilities, Microsoft Viva promises to help organisations realise employee experience excellence in the remote working era.

The Covid-19 pandemic has reshaped how people work, learn and live with some 115 million workers daily now active on Microsoft Teams. Equipping everyone across all levels of the organisation with the ability to seamlessly collaborate with colleagues and partners around the globe.

"But to truly empower people to feel connected, supported and able to bring their best selves to work, organisations must do more"

"But to truly empower people to feel connected, supported and able to bring their best selves to work" Jaret Spataro, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft 365 believes that organisations must do more. A view echoed by organisations across the globe, investing hundreds of billions each year on employee experience including employee development, training, benefits and wellbeing, all delivered using a host of employee experience technologies. Too often however these technologies are fragmented and disruptive to the flow of work, living outside of the applications your employees rely on day-to-day.

Designed for this new and flexible world of work, Microsoft Viva acts as a portal for both employees and businesses to navigate the complexities of remote working - all easily accessible within the business platform your employees are using day-to-day, MS Teams.

A gateway to your digital workplace, Viva is comprised of four key modules, connections, insights, topics and learning.

Microsoft Viva Connections

While usage of digital communication and collaboration software has reached an all-time high, a recent Work Trend Index showed that nearly 60% of employees feel less connected to their team since the move to remote working, a problem no amount of daily video calls can fix.

Powered by leading intranet platform SharePoint, Viva Connections acts as your organisation's gateway to internal communications. Catch up with colleagues via corporate town halls, access company news, policies and benefits at the touch of a button or effortless share content and resources across the web. The ideal onboarding companion Viva Connections provides a personalised feed in which employees can explore news and build connections both within their department and the wider organisation.

Microsoft Viva Insights

As the business world rapidly shifted to a remote working model, concerns emerged over how to keep employees productive and ensure an effective workflow in the "new normal". What quickly became clear however was the need to focus on work-life balance. Employees instead of struggling to find the motivation to work from home and stay productive were having a hard time preserving healthy boundaries between their professional and personal lives. In fact, 30% of employees said the pandemic had increased their sense of burnout.

Designed to help people achieve balance, Microsoft Viva Insights focuses on enhancing wellbeing experiences and ensuring individuals, managers and leaders have the insights and tools they need to prevent burnout and foster a culture of employee well-being. Employee privacy remains at the fore with safeguards like de-identification, aggregation or differential privacy available by default.

Microsoft Viva Learning

While the rate of change continues to accelerate, the importance of learning and development in any employee experience initiative remains constant. In fact, a recent Linkedin survey revealed that 94% of employees would stay at a company longer if it invested in their learning and development.

Microsoft Viva Learning app for Teams creates a central hub for learning, where people can discover, share, assign and learn from best in class content libraries. Housed in a central library with an AI that recommends the right content at the right time Viva Learning aggregates content from a variety of learning platforms including Linkedin Learning, Microsoft Learn, third party content providers such as Coursera, edX and Skillsoft along with the organisations own custom content. Making learning a natural part of the employees workday and company culture.

Microsoft Viva Topics

The fourth and final module, Microsoft Viva Topics seeks to help employees harness the power of knowledge experts and existing collateral without the high time investment typically associated with knowledge transfer. Described by Spataro as a "Wikipedia with AI superpowers for your organisation", Viva Topics is your go-to digital repository for the information and contacts your employees need to succeed.

Using AI to organise content, Viva Topics automatically surfaces topic cards with documents, videos and related people. Generating content from apps such as Office, Teams and SharePoint.

Still, in the roll-out phase with limited module availability, Microsoft Viva is a modern Employee Experience platform, designed for the hybrid workplace. An exciting development for every organisation with a Microsoft 365 digital workplace, speak to a member of our team to find out how Microsoft Viva can help your organisation deliver employee experience excellence.
